E-man Computer Repair Monroe, Snohomish, Everett
If you have purchased a HP DV9000 laptop, then it’s likely your left hinge has cracked and in doing so, also broke the embedded locknuts in the top LCD cover. If you had tried to contact HP then you know that the stories are true on how difficult it is and expensive it can be to have them help you. So for the people who want to do it themselves here is some information on how we do it at E-man computer repair in Snohomish Washington.
Attention this information is for reference only, E-man Computer Care Snohomish is not responsible if you follow this material and damage your laptop more.
1st step is to remove the three rubber screw covers located on the top edge of the laptop screen at the right, center and left side using a flat head screwdriver. Then remove the 3 screws located under the rubber covers with a Philips screwdriver
2nd step is to remove the outer screen bezel, which unsnaps. Be very careful not to force the plastic as it may crack! I would start from the left hinge corner which is probably open/broken, working clockwise with a box knife blade (being careful to not cut yourself) insert the cutting edge along the seam, use gentle prying, and snap apart every inch or so.
3rd Now that the LCD is fully exposed you can see how damaged the hinge and assembly points are.
4th Then you must unscrew the two screws that are on the left hinge connecting to the LCD screen.
5th Now you must remove the bad hinge. Depending on how damaged your top cover mounting points are. Try to unscrew the 4 Phillips head screws from the hinge (only 3 if you took out the one that was covered by the rubber screw cover already) If the screws turn and do not come loose the plastic support is broken and needs to be replaced.
6th Call E-man Computer Repair in Snohomish and order the hinge and the top cover. Then when you receive the parts, install them in the reverse order of the above instructions.
Finally put the 3 top screws and the 2 bottom screws back into LCD bezel into the laptop casing and then put the 5 rubber sticky pads back on and you are done.
